Serial Numbers are used for license protection of FlowJo. The Hardware Address of your computer is used to generate a serial number which allows FlowJo to run only on that computer. When you purchase a copy of FlowJo, we provide a serial number that expires in one year. Before your year is up, we will automatically send you a new serial number (at no charge). This is to give you the flexibility to assign your user license to a different computer--for instance, if you purchase a new, more powerful computer.

If you wish, you can request that we give you a permanent serial number for your computer. However, if this is the case, you will not be able to transfer your user license to any other computer.

Advantages:

• there is nothing physical to lose, i.e., no possible financial loss
• if you forget your serial number, we can always provide you with another
• if your computer needs to be repaired, we will be happy to provide you with a temporary serial number to run on any other suitable computer at your laboratory

Disadvantage:

• not easily transferred between different computers on a daily basis
