| A dongle is a small electronic
device that is attached to your computer. When it is attached, FlowJo
will be able to run on that computer. With Version 8 we use a new, simpler Thumbdrive style dongle. Just plug and play. Earlier versions are described below. FlowJo Version 4 uses a different
USB dongle than Version 3. ADB dongles do not work with v4.
Installing Dongles Version 6 and earlier:
New installation:
Download the desired
version of FlowJo or copy FlowJo from the CD to your computer.
We use a Vise Installer to install the FlowJo USB
dongle drivers. You will see installation screens for Aladdin and Vice when you install FlowJo. After stepping through those screens, the light in the dongle will appear.
If the dongle light goes out, download and install the drivers... OS9 and OSX
- Attach the dongle to an available USB port on you computer or keyboard.
- Download the driver installer here
or copy it from the FlowJo CD.
- Double-click on the compressed installer file to un-stuff it.
- Double click the extracted installer and follow the installation instructions.
- Restart the computer.
NOTE: If you are using OS9 and there is missing
text in dialog boxes, or FlowJo asks you to update your Carbon Lib you
need to run the carbonlib installer. Download
this installer here, un stuff it and double click it to start CarbonLib
installation. You may need to restart.
If the Vise Installer does not work on a machine running
OS8 or 9, follow the alternate method of installation described below.
Alternate installation method
for OS8 or 9
If you are running OS9 and the method of installation
above does not work, please use the following method.
- Attach the dongle to an available USB port on you computer or keyboard.
- Download
the folder containing the necessary extensions or copy it from the FlowJo
CD.
- Double-click on the "USBExtensions.sit" file to un stuff
it.
- Drag the extensions in the folder (MacHaspUsbDD and MacHasp4Shim)
and drop them into the Extensions folder (found in your System Folder).
- Restart the computer.
Installing Version 3:
- you cannot install version 3 dongles on OSX using classic mode. FlowJo
3 will only accept the dongle drivers if you boot from OS9.
Attach the version 3 dongle to an available USB port on you computer
or keyboard.
- Download
the folder containing the necessary extension (note - this is a different
file than for version 4).
- Double-click on the "USBExtension3.sit" file to un stuff
it.
- Drag the extension in the folder (MacHaspUsbDD) and drop it into your
OS9 System Folder.
- Restart the computer.
Do you need Stuffit Expander?
Trouble
Shooting:
-The red light should light up on the dongle when it
is recognized by your computer.
-Version 3 and Version 4 of FlowJo use different dongles and require different
installation methods. Version 3 dongles have MacHASP M written on the
label. Version 4 dongles have Hasp4 written on the label.
-If you are using OS9 and FlowJo asks you to update your Carbon Lib, download
this installer, unstuff it, and execute it. You may need to restart
your system.
-After upgrading your computer's Operating System to OSX.2 or higher,
please reinstall the dongle drivers by running the VISE installer (see
the first section above).
-If you have ordered a serial number license, you do not need a dongle.
These are separate license protection mechanisms.
