Instructions to Teachers
Each of the links below will access a document, power point presentation, website or other useful resource. All of the links are embedded in the Lesson Plans folder. Resources in green are a direct result from this grant. Numerous other resources are included in the Harvard Resources folder.
It may be useful to access the General Information documents prior to embarking on the lesson plan for flow cytometry; however, it is not necessary. There are also two types of evaluations available for grading purposes.
I. General Information
A. Proteins
Overview of proteins: Proteins PowerPoint
B. Cell Biology
1.From Harvard Workshop: Harvard Immunology Lesson Plans Online
-
Cell Types Power Point (as pdf) uses immunology as focus
-
Cell Research Project (pdf)
C. Cell Determination and Differentiation
1. From Harvard Workshop:
-
Pathways (a power point as a pdf) to cell types – students can create a diagram while viewing this presentation
2. Other Sources:
-
Cell Determination and Differentiation notes (as word document)
D. Immunology
1. Student Generated Documents from FlowJo Grant:
-
Power point presentation, includes cell, immunology, and flow cytometry information
-
Vocabulary List for immunology and flow cytometry
2. From Harvard Workshop
-
Immunology power point (as pdf)
-
Immunology reading and worksheet activity
3. Other Sources
E. HIV/AIDS
1. Student generated from FlowJo Grant:
-
HIV data analysis activity to be used in flow cytometry simulation
2. From Harvard Workshop:
Flow Cytometry Lesson Plans Addendum-
Vocabulary List for immunology and flow cytometry
-
T-shirt simulation activity – this is an easy activity that simulates cell sorting by a flow cytometer
-
Candy sorting (gating) activity – a fun activity that will help students understand the idea of gating. This could be easily modified to use some important statistics
