There are many times when it is useful to attach additional or external information to a node in the workspace. This may be handled in FlowJo through the workspace annotations.

To annotate one or more nodes, select them in the workspace and invoke the Set Annotations... command from the Workspace menu.

You will see a simple dialog with an editable field. Type the annotation into this box, click OK and the annotation will be attached to all of the selected nodes in the workspace.

There is a preference defined to import the information from the FCS file header. The FCS specification defines a $COM field for comments. If the (Preference for Copy $COM to annotation is checked then the workspace annotation field will be initialized with the keyword's value as samples are included. Note that any node can have an annotation, but only the top level sample nodes will ever receive information from the FCS file.

In the layout editor, graphs will show the node's annotation. To enable or disable this functionality, double click on a graph in the layout, and click on the Annotate pane. There is currently no functionality to export annotation information via the table editor. That will be implemented in a future release.
