Derived Parameters

Click Derived Parameters... in the Tools menu to open the Derived Parameters dialog below.

Click anywhere on the graphic below to learn about each tool or just scroll down the page.

To add a ratio of two stains as a parameter, choose the numerator and denominator then click Add Ratio. If you want the derived parameters to be linear, click that option. If you want to manually specify the range for the ratio and the number of decades, you may do so in the appropriate fields. Click the Manually set... box and enter the lowest value you want FlowJo to consider in the new parameter, then enter the number of decades of values to include above that number. [top]

If your data is too close to either end of the scale, you can apply a multiplier (Gain ) or an added/subtracted value (Offset) to move the data to the center of the display. To derive gains and offsets for a parameter, specify the source parameter and enter values for gain/offset.[top]

You can use this section of the platform to convert the scale that is displayed for a parameter between linear and logarithmic. Select a parameter from the drop-down menu, click the Convert button, then click Done. With the Convert to Calibrated button you can express any parameter's values in the units of your choice, assuming you have an existing Calibration standard. Creating a sum parameter will add the values of two existing parameters. [top]

Once you have created a new parameter, click on the Done button . A light blue color bar will appear in the Workspace to show that a derived parameter has been applied. You can copy the new parameter to all the samples in a group. Create a group of samples to which you wish to add the derived parameter. Select the group and tube with the new derived parameter. Open the Derived Parameter dialog and select the Copy to Group button.

Calibrated parameters you have created with the Calibration Tool are listed under the Tools menu. Select target tubes in the Workspace then, under the Tools menu, select the Calibration you wish to apply.

To remove a Derived Parameter from a sample:

  1. Highlight the sample and click Derived Parameters... in the Tools menu to open the Derived Parameters dialog. Select the parameter and click Delete or
  2. Just select Delete All.
